Experienced English Teacher specializing in adult learners, with a proven track record in teaching both General English (lifelong learning, ASEP-approved certifications) and English for Specific Purposes (Academic or Business English). Passionate and adaptive to the learner’s needs and interests, I view each lesson as an opportunity for a guided collaboration, which prioritizes support and empathy, in order to achieve their learning goals.

Education:

I completed my B.A. in English Language and Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2018. During my studies, I took part in the European Erasmus+ Programme at the University of Cologne in Germany for the summer semester of 2016, which allowed me to enhance my academic competence and deepen my cross-cultural understanding. A year later, in the winter semester of 2017, I gained practical teaching experience through an internship at the 1st Experimental Primary School of Thessaloniki.

Teacher of English as a Second or Foreign Language:

As a freelance teacher, I have been teaching various aspects of the English language for the past five years, as outlined below:

1. General English:

• Lifelong learning

I help learners familiarize with the nuances of the English language and eventually become fluent speakers, so that they are able to use the language confidently and correctly in everyday contexts.

• ASEP-approved certifications

I also prepare students for ASEP-approved certifications, some of which are internationally recognized as well:

2. English for Specific Purposes:

• English for Academic Purposes

I support students who wish to study or conduct a research paper in English by working on the skills that are required for academic achievement. This might include preparation for international exams (TOEFL, IELTS), training on academic writing (critical analysis of texts, guidance on how to structure a thesis/report, citing sources) or developing engaging presentation skills.

• Business English

I provide assistance to professionals who work in an English speaking environment, whether it is on site or remotely, and need to improve their communicative competence. In particular, I have delivered personalized lessons to individuals with different areas of specialization, which include Social Media Marketing, Art & Design and the Medical sector; our focus was honing practical skills, such as refining their CVs, writing cover letters and professional e-mails, handling interviews, giving presentations and participating efficiently in meetings or negotiations.

I stay up to date with the latest innovations in Foreign Language Teaching and therefore, I have been applying a Text-based Integrated Approach, which prioritizes meaningful communication. Each lesson is centered on a specific “text”, which could be in written, spoken or audiovisual form (books, recordings, songs, films, videos, etc). The language these texts use is authentic and contextualized in real-life situations. Learners perceive the content they are exposed to as relevant and purposeful, as they will be able to readjust it according to their own needs. They are taught simultaneously all four basic language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking –, which allows them to develop a deeper and more holistic understanding of the targeted language.
